Smart Power Cable

What is it?

NETIO PowerCable REST 101G is a smart WiFi power socket for integration with third-party systems using its open API (10 protocols). Use PowerCable REST to measure electricity consumption and switch its output on/off using one of the 10 Open API protocols, the web interface, NETIO Cloud, or the mobile app.

PowerCable is an industrial smart power extension cable with a WiFi connection to a LAN. Its web interface can be used to configure the device, display the energy metering values (V, A, kWh, W, Hz, TruePF) and turn on/off the controlled output power socket.

PowerCable REST 101G can be used for industrial applications. The product operates in a wide temperature range, supports FW upgrades over the web, can be controlled using a documented API, supports accurate energy metering, is capable of switching up to 16A when the current crosses the zero level, and more.

PowerCable REST 101x can be controlled with the NETIO Mobile2 app. Use an Android device with the app to control the outputs of multiple NETIO products.

NETIO Cloud is a TLS-secured service for controlling the outputs from anywhere and monitoring the electricity measurement data.

Open API allows controlling the outputs over the network using various protocols (http XML/JSON, Modbus/TCP, MQTT, SNMP, Telnet and more… ).

AV drivers make it easy to connect NETIO sockets to professional Audio/Video systems such as Neets, CRESTRON, Control4 and more.

OPEN API: SUPPORTED M2M PROTOCOLS

PowerCable REST 101x can be controlled with one out of 10 different M2M protocols:

  • Modbus/TCP AN27, AN22, AN37
  • MQTT-flex AN40
  • Telnet AN10
  • http URL API AN19, AN29
  • JSON over HTTP (default) AN21, AN30, AN42
  • http Push JSON
  • http Push XML
  • XML over HTTP AN20, AN31
  • SNMP v1 AN11, AN41
  • SNMP v3
  • The SNMP protocol can be always used in parallel to other APIs.

Regardless of the Open API used, PowerCable REST 101x can be always controlled from its web interface and from the NETIO Cloud service. The customer may use one Open API protocol and the NETIO Cloud service simultaneously.

ELECTRICAL MEASUREMENT

Each unit is two-point calibrated during manufacturing to measure consumption with a high accuracy. The immediate values are available through the web interface and the Open API:

  • Current [A]
  • Output power [W]
  • Energy [Wh]
  • TPF (True Power Factor)
  • Voltage [V]
  • Grid frequency [Hz]
  • Phase [°]
  • Reverse Energy [Wh]
  • Measurement accuracy: better than 1%

NETIO Cloud

The product can be connected to NETIO Cloud. Control a hundred outputs from a single web screen! NETIO Cloud is an ideal solution for remote control and restarting. The NETIO Cloud service is provided for a fee and supports NETIO products.

  • All devices produced by NETIO products can be connected to NETIO Cloud.
  • Devices connected to the service can be controlled securely from anywhere over the Web (HTTPs).
  • Thanks to the included “Welcome credit”, the service can be used at no extra cost for the first 3 years.
  • NETIO Cloud can be used in parallel with another Open API protocol.
  • Communication with the Cloud service is secured (port 8883 – MQTTs – TLS).
  • NETIO Cloud uses a separate Open API (MQTTS protocol) to control all devices linked to a given user account.

WI-FI CONNECTION

PowerCable REST connects to the network using WiFi (internal antenna). The initial WiFi connection is very simple: PowerCable works as a WiFi AP, searches for available WiFi networks and asks the user to select from them. A web wizard guides through the connection process. No mobile app is needed to install the device.

The NETIO WiFi Reconnect feature ensures stable availability of the device in an ordinary WiFi network. WiFi Reconnect ensures a stable LAN connection even in cases of an unstable WiFi AP, a necessity to switch over from one WiFi AP to another due to fluctuating signal strength, and so on.

Wi-Fi connection setup (AP mode)
The package includes the PowerCable QIG with instructions on how to quickly connect the device to your WiFi network and perform initial configuration over the web interface.

NETIO PowerCable creates a WiFi network that you connect to with your PC or mobile phone.
The device then scans for WiFi networks in the vicinity, and lets you choose from a list and type the password.
NETIO PowerCable then confirms the connection to the network and displays the assigned IP address.
NETIO PowerCable devices can be discovered in the LAN using the NETIO Discover tool.

NFC preconfig for easy and quick configuration of NETIO smart power strips
NFC pre-config – Installation in 60 seconds
WiFi connection (SSID and password) can be configured without turning PowerCable on. Set the configuration using the app (NETIO Mobile 2) and transfer it to PowerCable from your phone or tablet over NFC. This technology significantly reduces the installation time when installing many devices.

The entire process including unpacking takes at most 60 seconds; after that, your smart WiFi socket is connected to the LAN.

ZCS (ZERO CURRENT SWITCHING)

An important feature of NETIO PowerCable REST 101x is ZCS (Zero Current Switching). ZCS means that the internal relay switches the output power outlet on or off when the current crosses the zero level.

  • Thanks to ZCS, the device can control switching power supplies (servers, computers and other IT equipment) up to the maximum rated power.
  • Using ZCS (Zero Current Switching) to switch the outputs reduces the chance of a circuit breaker tripping when power is restored after an outage.
  • Since the relay switches when the sinusoidal current curve crosses the zero level, negative effects of inrush current are significantly reduced.
  • ZCS significantly reduces EMC interference generated by switching a 230V output on and off.
  • ZCS extends the lifetime of connected equipment; especially in case of frequent on/off switching of devices that are not designed for that (such as switching power supplies).

POWERUP STATE

For some applications, it is important to set the correct state of a power output immediately after power is turned on (or restored). The “PowerUp state” parameter defines the behavior of the 110/230V outlets just after power is restored, before the standard communication with the master system is established.

• On
• Off
• LAST state restores the last state before the power was disconnected

Delayed switch-on function ensures that the 110/230V power output is switched on with a configurable delay (several seconds) after the power is restored. This can avoid circuit breaker tripping when power is restored after an outage.

MOBILE APP: NETIO MOBILE2

PowerCable REST101x can be controlled over the local network with the NETIO Mobile 2 app (Android only at the moment).

  • The mobile app can be used to control several NETIO devices and all their outputs as well as to read the electrical measurements.
  • The mobile device must be connected to the same LAN (connect the phone/tablet via WiFi).
  • NETIO Mobile2 can scan the LAN and discover connected devices. WiFi connection to the LAN is required.
  • NFC support for a quick setup of many devices

SCHEDULER FUNCTION

With the Scheduler function, each output can be switched on and off automatically at pre-defined times and days-of-week. A schedule is useful for saving energy and periodically restarting the connected appliances.

  • Each output can have its own schedule.
  • While the schedule is in effect, the output can be also controlled with NETIO Cloud, from the web and using other inputs.
  • The scheduler works without an Internet connection (a time source – a NTP server – is needed, such as a local ADSL / WiFi router).
